And so it’s reached the point where it’s such a short period of time to go I’ve stopped counting. Today: my sister (and, technically speaking my brother, although I’m not sure whether he actually contributed any money) got me a new watch, which I sort of chose myself. After the strap on my Casio broke, [...]

Five! Four! Three!
September 27th, 2007 · No Comments
It’s getting closer and closer, and yet it still feels very, very far away. Like it’s not going to happen. Like I’ve still got forever to plan.
What do I still need to do, anyway?
1. Pack! Which I shall do tomorrow. I imagine I’ll print out my inventory and check everything off. I am seriously concerned [...]

Coming up next

The next event to pop up on my phone’s upcoming events thingy is “2/10/07 19:35 — Check in, Terminal 4″. Crikey.
Got my traveller’s cheques today: a meaty ¥110,000’s worth which only I can use! Also continued the continuing saga of tracking down my debit card. There is a possibility it won’t get here by Tuesday, [...]

david’s last summer
September 23rd, 2007 · No Comments
And as we walked home, we could hear the leaves curling,
And turning brown on the trees.
And the birds deciding where to go for the winter.
And the whole sound,
The whole sound of Summer packing its bags,
And preparing to leave town
Unexpectedly, it was my last day of work today. I need to head back at some point [...]
Twelve monkeys days

Am I excited, people ask. Well, yes and no. I am looking forward to it, but it’s more like I’ve been waiting a year for a kidney transplant and I’m getting it done in a week. Which is to say, I’ll be glad when it’s actually the day and I can forget about everything. But [...]

The final days

16 days to go. Which will soon be a neater two weeks. Today I sorted out my phone so my current number will be on a Pay & Go SIM card, and I also copied over my emergency info and budgets and Firefox bookmarks to my Mac so that’s all good.
Then I thought: “What else [...]

Trippin’ to London, #3
September 13th, 2007 · No Comments
Went to London with Jade. Caught train at 9:30am, which naturally left us in London at 11:30am. Decided to go to the Tate Modern.
Ate at a branch of the ubiquitous EAT. Saw a helicopter with a giant flying advert, which you don’t see every day:
Anyway, the Tate was rather dull so when the fire alarm [...]

タコを食べる

Went to Shiki today, the Japanese restaurant in Norwich. Had some lovely miso soup and sushi… including octopus nigiri. I’ve never had octopus before. It had suckers. I sort of chewed it down, a battle to swallow it before I retched. But I did it: I ate octopus. Nothing stands in my way now!

gifts
September 5th, 2007 · No Comments
My mum told me to close my eyes and hold my hands out, because apparently my nanny had sent a gift for me. “It’s not socks, is it?” I said. It wasn’t socks - it was a cheque for £500. I was genuinely astonished: nobody’s ever given me that much money, ever. I felt bad [...]
