Zarathustra answered: “I love mankind.”
“Why,” said the saint, “did I go into the forest and the desert? Was it not because I loved mankind far too well? Now I love God! Mankind I do not love; mankind is a thing too imperfect for me. Love of mankind would be fatal to me.”
…
But when Zarathustra was [...]

I’m wanted (wanted), dead or alaaaive
November 11th, 2007 · No Comments
Slightly apprehensive about work today, because apparently I had a lesson with a kid, and I’ve had no prior experience with kids. And not much experience teaching English, for that matter.
So after arriving slightly late I met Shintaro: less than a metre tall, unable to stay still for more than a minute, and strangely adorable. [...]

To Nakano!
November 7th, 2007 · 1 Comment
…again, to look for jobs. Found two new ones, so I will once again apply… I guess it’s a bad time for teaching jobs, what with the year coming to an end. But if I apply for enough, I’m bound to get one.
I’m actually working some extra hours at e-mix this week though, so if [...]

I got paid! For one day. 3,700 yen. I guess it’s a start.

Nothing much has been happening here, at all. Paid next month’s rent, so I’m alright for a bit, and I have enough cash to survive into the new year.
“Why not go to Akihabara?” said my subconscious. “Because it’s wrong! I’ll spend money! I’ll — oh hell, why not.”
Oh, Akihabara. If you’re tired of Akihabara, you’re [...]

e-mix part 2
October 18th, 2007 · No Comments
Second night of work at e-mix! Which is easy. Did a one-to-one lesson, which I think I was pretty good at. Then just free conversation for ages. I amazed all with my knowledge of Japanese emperors. Met a girl who’s also into Evangelion. Earned 8,000 yen. Yay.

Yeah, I caved in. Went down to Ueno’s branch of Muji and picked up a suit jacket and tie for 12,000 yen. Still need to get shoes, though.

Pay day

My last paycheque from Caterleisure came in today. A quick sum reveals that I have a sum total of 320,000 yen to survive on: in the form of 280,000 yen in my bank account, 30,000 yen in traveller’s cheques, and a solitary 10,000 yen note.
I also have £500 floating around in another account, but I’m [...]

I’m listening to Take On Me by A-Ha, largely due to a brilliantly-executed spoof of the video on Family Guy the other night.
I’m still slightly concerned about my finances. I mean, I’m hardly spending much on food, which is gravy. On the other hand, trains and going out and any mixture of the two costs [...]

“If you want I can show you around since no one’s trying to stop the ship or blast us.”
“Stop that ship! Blast them!”
“Oop, now I can’t show you around.”
…Free Family Guy is great.
Anyway, went for the interview and it seems pretty good. They said the teaching was quite difficult but if I’m doing part-time at [...]
